
Jazmine was raised and born within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam was a backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five, old, her father landed job as curator at Philadelphia's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family moved into the mansion's historical site. In 2005 she graduated from Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in the class of a major in vocal music. Sullivan started singing as a contralto children's choirand shortly after, she was a part of the adult choir. Sullivan was not exposed secular music until he was a teenager. "I was singing for the first time solo in churches, and one of my friends asked me to commit to record a gospel song when I was eleven. But I wasn't ready for that," she says. "Then the time came that McDonald's offered a competition to students in big cities, I got a chance to sing 'Accept What God Allows' on It's Showtime on the Apollo and the audience responded really well". Stevie Wonder sang her part when he turned 13. Sullivan had signed her first contract to Jive Records when she was fifteen. In Jive Records, she made an entire album. But the album wasn't released. Sullivan was later dropped off the record label. There was a close relationship with Missy Elliott who wrote and recorded many of the tracks in her debut album like the buzz track "Backstabbers" composed by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
